About the event

Speaker Michael Kotkamp has been working at NIWA's Lauder Atmospheric Research Centre in Central Otago for 34 years a a science technician, in the field of UV & Solar radiation, ozone, and greenhouse gases research.  He has built, maintined, calibrated, and operates many of the insturments and equipment used to acquire measurement data.  His work has taken him around the world from Germany to Hawaii, Greece, Melbourne, Alice Springs, and Scott Base in Antartica.

His talk will cover calibrating and servicing UV spectrometer system under the searing hot Alice Springs sun - to servicing an Stratospheric Chlorine monoxide microwave radiometer in the freezing cold of Scott Base in the same month, and leave one awe inspired at the physical contrast and beauty.
