If you want a taste of the Clutha Gold Cycle trail, but are short on time, then this is the section for you.
With a starting point on Rhodes Road just off State Highway 8, this section of the trail features a car park and picnic pavilion with tables. Continue past the pavilion to the sign for Clutha Gold Cycle Trail.
The walk takes you along the old Milton-to-Roxburgh rail line, through the Mount Stuart Tunnel, across and then under a beautiful stone viaduct. You’ll also pass by the water tap that was once used to supply water to steam locomotives. During the autumn months, this section of the trail is adorned with the rich colours of the season, and during the summer it positively glows green.
By foot, this section of the Clutha Gold Cycle Trail takes approximately 1 hour to reach the viaduct. From there, you can return the way you came or continue on the trail down Falla Burn Road to Mount Stuart Reserve.
