Standardbred Horse Stud among the goldminers who arrived in Tuapeka in 1861 was Patrick Cummings, a young Irishman who had gone to Australia four years earlier. At Tuapeka he must have found enough gold to buy some land to start a farm, and his family are still farming in the area. Their endeavours now include this very successful Standardbred horse stud called Tuapeka Lodge dedicated to breeding high quality racehorses. Call anytime and take your chance that somebody will be around. Call 027 4919608 to make a time to visit.
